Your online presence can take many forms these days, so it is important to coordinate your marketing efforts. There is a plethora of social media platforms out there, including Google, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, TikTok, and many more. Email newsletters are another online marketing option. These are all good things to be do, but they can misfire, or confuse your customers if they are not implemented properly.
My general rule is to put the promotion on the website first, before you post it on social media sites. One reason for this: you can put a lot more information on your website than you can in a social post. This way you use the post to interest the viewer, and the website to explain the finer details. You may also put a quote form on the landing page to get more leads, or to sign up. The website not only gives you more space, it gives you more freedom to craft your message to viewers who click on the social media link.
Another, less obvious reason to coordinate your marketing, is simple consistency. I would never expect to see a big promotion for a department store sale without seeing signs of the same promotion once I got to the store. This confirms immediately that your info was correct and that you are in the right place. On the other hand, it would be a little confusing if you got the store, and there were absolutely no signs of the sale at all.
Likewise, if someone were to visit your website after seeing the promotion on another platform, they might be confused if there were no mention of it anywhere on the website. They may doubt what they saw, or think they were mistaken about the store. Obviously, this is to be avoided at all costs. Whether you sell products online or not, your website is still your online store-front. What people find their should be consistent with your current promotions or activities elsewhere.
As for everything else, the timing of each social media post, or your newsletter, is not extremely crucial, but you should plan on putting it all other at roughly the same time, once you have your website prepared. Again, it shows a certain competence to your audience when you coordinate your marketing campaigns.
If you happen to be a client of Outward Image, we just ask you give us a day to get the new promotion on your site. Once there, we will notify you and pass along any URLS you may want to link to your campaign(s).
Keeping your site up to date with your social media promotions will also help you attract more visitors. Once they know the information on your site is normally reliable and current, they may check back once in a while just to see what is happening. It may sound obvious, but if you want people to visitor your site more than once, you have to give them a reason.
Social media campaigns and email newsletters are all valuable marketing tools, but they should also be used to attract more visitors to your website. This way, you can get the most out of your website as it’s own marketing tool.
